Remedial Intervention Programme (RIP)

about-section-image

The Remedial Intervention Programme (RIP) is a short term intensive intervention programme geared towards targeting the development of core academic skills in children ages 6-9. This programme has a duration of 10-12 weeks with each class composed of 8-10 students. The ultimate goal of this programme is to provide students with a structured and replicable intervention approach which targets core academic weaknesses. Interventions are guided by empirically sound teaching approaches towards the goal of meeting each child’s individual learning needs. Entrance into this programme is referral based with students’ eligibility determined following an individual psychoeducational assessment at the Mico CARE Centre.

Tutorial Intervention Programme

about-section-image

The Tutorial Intervention Programme (TIP) is a one (1) term afternoon programme, which runs from Mondays to Thursdays from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. Each participating student is scheduled to attend for two evenings per week, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, and engage in targeted skill remediation within a small classroom environment (8- 10 students per class). Sessions focus on the areas of Reading Fluency, Comprehension, Written Expression, and Mathematics and most benefit students with weaknesses in specific academic skills that require targeted intervention beyond what is feasible within the larger classroom setting. This programme differs from the other offers of the CARE Centre as students entering this programme do not need to be previously assessed.

Bridge Programme

about-section-image

The Bridge Programme initiative is a 2-year intensive academic remediation programme geared towards meeting the particular needs of students between the ages of 11-14 who are set to transition from the primary to secondary school level but will find it challenging to function independently at the high school level. These students are typically referred to as ‘slow learners’ or have been diagnosed with a learning disability that necessitates more intensive intervention to address existing learning gaps than can be accommodated in the regular classroom setting. This programme hosts a maximum capacity of 10-12 students with one (1) Special Educator and one (1) Teacher's Aide. Applicants must complete the registration process and submit a psychoeducational report for consideration. Psychoeducational reports may be done privately or through the Mico CARE Centre. For more information, please contact the Centre. You may also request a registration package.

The Summer Intervention Programme (SIP) is a 3-week academic intervention for students 6-13 years. The programme targets math and reading deficits in learning labs, using specialized, evidence-based teaching approaches and material. Students attend lab sessions in small groups, of no more than 10 students, where they engage in intensive remediation based on the deficits identified through a pre-test. SIP usually runs from the second to the fourth week of July.
